Biography
Herbert Takhmazyan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (License #95723) and has an M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology. He has been practicing psychotherapy since 2011. He received his B.S. in Neurobiology from the University of California, Irvine in 2008 and his M.A. from Pacifica Graduate Institute in 2013. His career was informed by a passion to better understand how one’s neurophysiology impacts mental health. After joining a research lab focusing on long-term memory formation at the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory at UC Irvine, he realized his calling for Depth Psychology.
He started his formal training at Hathaway-Sycamores, a community based mental health facility, at their Pacoima, CA office in 2011 where he worked with kids, teens, and parents. Thereafter, he joined Pacific Clinics where he continued his work with kids, teens, adults, parents and families. He worked with the Full-Service-Partnership (FSP) program at Pacific Clinics, serving some of LA County’s most vulnerable and in-need members. Once licensed in 2016, Herbert started his private practice while working as part of the administration at the LA County Department of Mental Health, Wraparound program. His passion for working directly with clients resulted in his departure from LA County DMH and founded NHT Family Counseling Inc in 2019 where he has been providing counseling services full time.
Herbert’s passion for mental health was sparked by the work of C.G. Jung and his predecessors. Through those bodies of work, he came into contact with his own unconscious and how its manifestations that were expressed symbolically through dreams, symptoms, and spontaneous/intrusive thoughts, feelings, and images.

My Approach
My personal experiences in growth and healing have cemented my passion for the process of psychotherapy and the power of the human potential. I understand what it’s like to suffer in ways that others cannot see or relate to, including the professionals in our lives. I approach my work from a multi-modal perspective and employ what is needed by each individual. I work to create a safe, trusting, and compassionate environment in order to identify what the underlying needs truly are. Thereafter, through a collaborative process we develop a treatment plan that can incorporate solution focused, Cognitive Behavioral strategies, or more abstract and psychodynamic / depth-psychological approaches because the symptom isn’t always the problem.
